Safe Product Photography - Playing it Safe

International safe sellers, Insafe, recently commissioned me to create some product photography (and take some staff portraits, too) at their modern industrial premises in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

Safe to say there were no insecurities about this shoot. The key to success was making sure the safe stood out in its environment, but in a subtle and realistic way. Unlocking this effect was achieved using a dedicated gridded flash to illuminate the safe itself and a little bit of layers and clipping paths in Photoshop to make sure the product ‘pops’ in the image, without being garish or screaming the ‘Photoshop!’ alarm.

(PS - Prize discount off your next shoot with me for whoever correctly counts the amount of ‘safe’ related puns in this blog post!)

I also created some ‘cut out’ photography of the same Chubbsafes model on a plain white background - a technical endeavour more than a creative one. See below.
